Lions Mane Experiments

December 12, 2015

We are experimenting this winter with several species of medicinal mushrooms in our grow room- Lions Mane (Hericium spp.) being a primary focus.  Not only is it being researched for its ability to potentially stimulate nerve regeneration and support brain health, it is a succulent and delicious edible imbued with a flavor of crabmeat or lobster with hints of lemon.  Truly amazing!  We tested this strain on pure unsupplemented  red maple sawdust and it flourished-next up we will be expanding the grow on supplemented substrates.

In the wild, it fruits in the Fall when temperatures drop and a condensing fog accumulates in the hollows of hardwoods and especially on dead and dying Beech logs in the NorthEast.
