Her Majesty the Golden Staghorn
We have been growing Golden Reishi (Ganoderma curtisii) since January of this year. The 5 pound supplemented blocks were colonized rapidly by the Reishi mycelium and then when we were expecting fructification they stalled.... for a while. Then, late Spring arrived and temperatures slowly rose to about 70 degrees and like magic they pinned! Yet another lesson learned: temperature is CRUCIAL for frutiing different mushroom species, each has there own specific niche.
We grew the Reishi in enclosed bags to increase CO2 and encourage the "staghorn" formation and now they are outdoors to mature and shelf out. They will be utilized in medicinal tea and tincture, and of course one will be dried and preserved as a sculpture.
